Removing Acne Scars

If you've struggled with acne for any period of time, you may have acne scars. There are several acne scar removal procedures that will reduce or eliminate those acne scars.

This process also removes the top layer of skin. It uses surgical instruments to scrape or refinish the top layer of skin. If takes out the skin irregularities and gives a smoother appearance. Dermabrasion can be done on the entire face or a small area of affected skin.

Laser Resurfacing

This procedure uses a laser to treat scarring. Laser resurfacing tightens and smoothes the skin. It makes acne scars appear less obvious. However, this process will not make the acne scars disappear. It make also take several treatments to achieve the desired outcome.

Collagen Injections

Collagen injections are used to treat acne scars. Collagen is a protein found in the body. The collagen is injected directly into the acne scars. The result is that the skin under the scar is raised giving a smoother looking skin. One drawback is that some people are allergic to collagen. The side effects of collagen injection is redness, swelling and itching.

Punch Grafts

This procedure uses small skin grafts to replace scarred acne skin. The acne scar is removed by a hole punched into the skin. Then, unscarred skin, usually from the back of the ear) is used to replace the scarred area. This procedure is used to treat deep acne scars.
