Proactiv Acne Treatment: A
Review
Proactiv acne treatment is a
very popular and highly
advertised product. It has
several good points. However,
when nearly 2000 users were
asked to rate* Proactiv, it came
up a little short.
Be
careful in following some of the
recommendations of Proactiv.
Some people feel the cleanser is
too irritating. The suggestion
of washing your face for one to
two minutes generally increases
skin irritation.
The recommendation of 2.5%
benzoyl peroxide is right on
target. However, don’t
continuously use a thin layer.
For best results, you should
slowly increase the dosage
during the first few weeks.
Start with a thin layer, and
then increase it every other
day. Beware that too much of the
benzoyl peroxide lotion can
overwhelm you nose.
It will be more cost effective
to purchase an over-the-counter
unscented 2.5% benzoyl peroxide
medication. Don’t get the higher
percentage product, only use the
2.5% solution. In this case,
more is not better. While you’re
at it, you can also purchase an
inexpensive oil free
moisturizer.
When 2000 users were asked to
rate Proactiv Acne, here is how
they responded. The rating was a
five-point scale, with 5 being
the highest and 1 the lowest:

In summary, the 2.5% benzoyl
peroxide medication is exactly
what you need. The cleanser is a
little too harsh, but the
Proactiv toner is ok but not a
necessity. You can save money by
purchasing your own
over-the-counter benzoyl
peroxide and oil-free
moisturizer. However, if you
already own Proactiv acne
treatment product, use it.
